Who We Are

Brief History

A pastor at Bulverde Baptist Church once had a dream of a mission north of the Guadalupe River in Spring Branch. He encouraged a small group of believers to begin meeting and praying towards that end. They called themselves First Baptist Church of Spring Branch. In 1998, they approached a small church called "Abiding Love" (that was meeting at the old fire station in Spring Branch), and asked them to pray about merging. After a few months, the two churches united and changed their name to Spring Branch Baptist Church.

Initially they called a retired pastor, Brother C.B. Baker, as interim. He soon recommended a bi-vocational pastor to them, and in March of 2000 nineteen members called Rick Martindale to be their first permanent pastor. Two years later, by God’s grace, the church purchased 21 acres of land approximately 3 miles north of the old fire station on the west side of Hwy 281 and began clearing the land for the future site of a worship facility. Many activities took place at the Lord's Land, including Vacation Bible School, Sunrise Services, Camp-Outs, and a Living Nativity.

In the spring of 2008, building began on the site and the Worship Center was completed and dedicated in October. One year later, we are excited to see how God is working in our midst. We continue to praise Him for this building and for this Land that He has provided. It's been an exciting year of watching God work in our community of Spring Branch, Texas.

A Description of Our Church

SBBC is a loving Bible-believing church that believes a Christian is called "to know Jesus, to grow in Jesus, to glow with Jesus!--and to show Jesus to our community (and beyond)." Our church is unique in its genuine caring for one another and the Lord has chosen to bring a eclectic group of people together to worship Him. Whether rich or poor, our people truly love and care for one another. Consequently, we have an extensive food ministry to distribute food to the poor.

Our preaching and Sunday School classes are all based in God’s Word. The Pastor preaches exegetically and enthusiastically! Our music consists of traditional hymns; plus we also have a little group of musicians that play some older hymns and songs that lend themselves to a “blue-grass” style (banjo, guitars, fiddle, and mandolin). If you have young people, we have a dynamic youth pastor who, along with his wife, mentor the youth group that gets together often for Bible study, games, music, and other activities. I’d have to say, that if you love the Lord, and want to go somewhere where you are loved and can grow as a Christian, then Spring Branch Baptist Church would be a great place to bring your family. If you want more detail on exactly what we believe, please refer to the list of What We Believe.
